Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School was designed to accommodate 950 students from Yarmouth and the surrounding area. In a smaller community such as Yarmouth, the school often serves as a gathering point for the community. Therefore, special consideration was given to situating the school’s sporting and performance spaces to allow for optimum academic and public use of the space. As such, the school is organized around a continuous circulation route with a two-storey, glazed atrium connecting many of the important academic and shared public spaces.
Sustainably designed, a high priority was placed on using materials that were chosen for their low environmental impacts and indoor air quality. A green and reflective roof combined with native plant landscaping reduces energy and water requirements for the building as well as enhances green space.
