The gymnastics and climbing facility in the City of Whitehorse will fulfill the needs of the fastest growing recreational sport within the community. The facility features a 110 ft x 160 ft of open floor area for Artistic Gymnastics and a climbing area with over 120 linear feet of bouldering wall. The gymnastics portion of the building is designed with a series of windows arranged in a staggered pattern along the south façade to introduce natural light into the gym to improve the quality of space through daylighting, and potentially reduce the electrical load during the daytime. In addition, clerestory bands are above each climbing wall to allow light to spill in from the top of the rooms. The building is designed to exceed the Canadian national energy code requirements by 35% and will minimize operations and maintenance costs. Over 120 parking stalls, bicycle storage, and electric charging ports will be accessible in anticipation of hosting sporting events. The Whitehorse Gymnastics and Climbing Facility is built to a world class standard fit to host future international competitions.
