The small, rural township of Wellesley in Ontario will receive a new, multi-purpose recreation centre. The long-awaited project will strengthen the bond of community members by offering new services and amenities including a youth and seniors' centre, a multi-purpose gymnasium supported by a commercial kitchen, a community hall overlooking the rink, an NHL sized hockey rink with seating for 400 spectators and a walking track, accessible change rooms, fitness centre, meeting rooms, an outdoor playground and skatepark, soccer fields , outdoor sports courts and walking trails. A new Wellesley Township Community Health Centre focused on family and community health has been integrated into the overall complex.
For roughly 50 years, the township's recreation infrastructure was comprised of a hockey arena space unable to provide sufficient services to residents. The new, consolidated, centre will allow the Township to grow with the community and provide a more multi-discipline service offering.
