Valleyview Recreational Hub is a community centre and public park located in Brandon, Manitoba. As one of several key sites to be redeveloped as part of the City’s Recreation Master Plan, the site includes a new splash pad, hockey rink, landscaping, and upgraded building facilities, including changerooms and public washrooms. The project has transformed the site into a thriving recreation destination that serves the Brandon community all year long.
The splash pad design was strongly influenced by feedback from a public open house and survey. The layout of the splash pad carefully considers different ages and abilities by creating zones of higher and lower intensity sprayers. The splash pad also includes a custom water table bench that allows kids and parents to sit close to the sprayers while not getting wet.
In the winter, the splash pad can be flooded to provide a small, beginner-oriented skating rink. The new, full-size skating rink can therefore provide an unobstructed skate space for more advanced skaters and hockey games.
Other site elements include strategically placed shade trees, seating areas and benches, a patio and wood deck, access to change rooms and washrooms, grassy berms, a new parking area, and planting beds.
