The Great Hall of the National Bank is located in the Sun Life building which was built in 1917. This space is a unique place in Montreal. The steel structure, the cast iron and the masonry are exclusive siding, as are the marble floors and walls. The ceilings of the mezzanine level and the upper part of the hall are made of boxes enrolled in richly ornamented plaster, topped with gold leaf. There is also marble coating on the inside of exterior walls and of vertical openings and mechanical wells spread across the floor area. This is truly a unique building, whose heritage and integrity must be respected during the development of working drawings and during construction.
