The Meridian is a transformative mixed-use development located in Downtown Halifax. Once home to the historic Ralston Building, this site was recently the subject of a public engagement process led by A49 for the Canada Lands Company. The outcome of that process informed the ultimate design for the redevelopment, also led by A49 for the winning development team under Universal Realty Group. The project re-imagines the site with the goal of providing residential housing in the urban core, blending modern living with the area's rich heritage.
The Meridian will feature 462 thoughtfully designed apartments across three buildings, ranging from six to twenty stories. With a variety of layouts—from studios to two-bedroom suites - each unit will offer stunning city and waterfront views. Other amenity spaces include a club room, fitness facility, underground parking, and rooftop common areas with panoramic vistas.
The development emulates the varied scale and material palette of Downtown Halifax, while respecting Land Use By-law constraints and view planes emanating from the Halifax Citadel. The 3 buildings are arranged on top of a shared below-grade parking structure, framing landscaped plazas off Hollis Street and Lower Water Street. The Meridian's many ground-floor retail spaces and a welcoming pedestrian promenade will enhance the vibrant connection between the Halifax Waterfront and the downtown core.
