Quebecor Headquarters

Montreal, Quebec (in joint venture with Le Groupe Cardinal Hardy)

This 19-storey office tower was built adjacent to Quebecor’s existing 13-storey structure on St-Jacques Street. A lobby linking the two buildings is positioned to connect the two elevator cores, while offering a cross-block pedestrian passage between rue Saint-Jacques, rue Notre-Dame and Square Victoria.

The tower offers fine vistas of Mount Royal, the Saint Lawrence river and the historic roof tops of Old Montreal, yet its location also demanded particular care during the design process. The design had to be sensitive to the adjoining 1960s Quebecor tower as well as its setting in Montreal’s Quartier International. The location also required careful planning to address the confined site, adjacent structures and the need to maintain services in the existing building.

"The renovated existing tower and the new tower have been designed for flexibility with maximized views and day-lighting while reducing reliance on electrical sources." Jean Guy Coté, Project Lead

Sustainability was an important consideration for this project. Local materials were incorporated, such as the limestone panels on the façade; fenestration was designed to take advantage of solar heat gain and prevent overheating; and green roofs were implemented to retain rainwater and reduce urban heat islands.
