Architecture49 has partnered with the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation on their eight most recently-built new stores, as well as upgrades and renovations to their existing facilities. Under the “Distinctly Maritimes” and “Urban Connections” themes, these stores reflect a sense of community. At the Forest Hills location in Dartmouth, the design was inspired by the nearby Lawrencetown Beach, which is gaining international recognition as a surfing destination; the Kentville store, in the Annapolis Valley, speaks to the surrounding agricultural community; and, in Halifax, the Agricola store was designed using cues from the urban revitalization happening in the immediate neighbourhood.
All of the new NSLC stores are registered under the Canadian Green Building Council’s LEED program. Energy savings, smart material choices and a healthy environment for staff and customers are all high priorities in the design and construction of these stores.
