Merlis Belsher Place is a twin rink sports facility located on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan in the sports precinct, which also includes a football stadium, a field house and several nearby sports fields. The facility includes two arena’s; one 2,520 seat designed for varsity hockey, concerts and events; and the other is a community arena playing host to the local Midget AAA hockey teams. Each rink is supported by six dressing rooms with the main spectator rink having men’s and women’s varsity dressing rooms.
The facility also includes a gymnasium with twin NBA size basketball courts, a sports science research department and fitness training centre. The main lobby contains a pro shop, administration and concession. The upper level includes a concession and a large lounge with views into the main spectator rink.
Exterior design incorporates local materials and finishes to suit campus guidelines and adjacent developments. A large two-storey glazed lobby with a sloped roof adds drama to the design and create a focal point for the large public plaza that will serve both the field house and rink.
