The Municipality of the County of Kings, Engineering and Public Works Operations Centre is the first Net Zero Energy certified building in Nova Scotia. The building consumes 36% less energy than the 2017 National Energy Code. Remaining energy consumption is offset by the large PV array on the roof of the building and on site. The 8,000 SF Operations building focuses on keeping the floor plan minimal and efficient. The building is divided into two main areas: Administration and Maintenance. The administration area is a combination of workstations and offices with support spaces for employees. The maintenance garage includes two drive-thru vehicle bays, small parts inventory room and space for small equipment repair and storage. An emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity was placed on the project by designing the building for Rick Hansen Certification.
