The Child and Family Research Institute (CFRI) links both the Variety Club and the BC Research Institute/Centre for Molecular Medicine research laboratories to complete the research complex at the Children’s and Women’s Hospital. The CFRI is dedicated to world-class research spanning a wide range of children’s and women’s health concerns. It is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada.
The project involved development of the functional program and design for a 12 077 m² expansion over five floors of the existing research facility. It consolidates a variety of programs under one roof including Diabetes, Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases, Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, Oncology, Health Innovation and Improvement, and Community Health Research. The new facilities support wet and dry laboratories, office-based research, clinical investigation and animal studies, and the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
