The Brennan Park Recreation Centre project included the removal and replacement of the original concrete slab and cooling system from 1977. The project included a refrigerated ice sheet slab c/w underslab heating system, raised viewing platform and ramp for spectators using wheelchairs, refrigeration headers connected to existing refrigeration equipment, and dasher boards and suspended safety netting.
Sustainability was incorporated by addressing ways to minimize environmental impact, such as re-using existing glass in the new dasher board system, re-using the existing brine, recycling the concrete from the old ice slab and incorporating a heat exchanger in the refrigeration.
