The Concert Properties Centre for Trades & Technology at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) sets a new standard for trades education with a focus on sustainability, wellness, and connection to the natural environment. Designed to support hands-on, interdisciplinary learning, the building expands BCIT’s capacity to deliver applied education in modern, adaptable spaces.
Large windows bring daylight deep into the trades labs, creating bright, open environments that contrast with the typical warehouse-like settings of similar facilities. Scenic views and access to fresh air are prioritized through natural ventilation strategies and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. The project also restores and daylight’s Guichon Creek, which had previously been contained in a culvert, enhancing the ecological and social value of the campus.
Targeting LEED Gold certification, the Centre reflects BCIT’s commitment to sustainable design and to creating an inspiring learning environment for students and faculty.
