W.A.C. Bennett Dam and the Gordon M. Shrum (GMS) Generating Station are located at the head of the Peace River Canyon and has the capacity to generate over 13 billion kWh annually. This project involved upgrading the Visitor Centre which is located near the dam, overlooking Williston Lake Reservoir.
The centre features exhibits on the dam, hydroelectricity and the area’s natural and cultural history. Through selective demolition and reconstruction, the redesigned building integrates new creative content and displays, both interior and exterior, bringing the facility in line with current code requirements regarding energy efficiency and accessibility and gives this popular tourist spot a much needed upgrade. The facility also includes a video theatre and cafe.
The project scope also included the design of a viewing platform and related outdoor facilities at the Peace Canyon Dam.
