The Ajax pedestrian bridge is part of a multi-year renovation to improve the overall functionality and safety of the station. It is part of the Regional Transportation Plan which aims to transform transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and is a key feature of the Ajax GO Station site. The pedestrian bridge increases safety for passengers and motorists by providing access between two large parking areas adjacent to a municipal road.
The bridge defines and enhances vistas from the approach to the site and through a “see through” transparency of the built form maximizes visibility of the Dufferin Creek Conservation Area. Simple and elegant, this contemporary and unique bridge structure incorporates an innovative geometry and lightness of the supporting structural system.
The design provides for fluid and efficient pedestrian circulation, integrating built form into the site context and landscaping as well as incorporating simple materials, such as metal, glass, ceramics and concrete, all in line with GO brand standards.
