Air Canada enjoys a reputation of connecting Canadians to destinations all over the globe. The expansion of their Downtown Toronto offices involved doubling their space at 2 Queen Street East to occupy two full floors. There was a strong desire to create a fresh office environment with flexibility to support a variety of workspace needs.
An indoor street links the North and South sides of the floor and features an Air Canada branded reception area and meeting room, a coffee bar, media wall, and a large lunchroom with a variety of seating configurations. The layout provides 13 traditional enclosed offices, as well as studio type spaces such as think tanks, open concept desking and collaboration areas. A large product innovation room adjacent to the reception area features a glass display wall showcasing Air Canada products.
A key driver in the design was access to city views and daylight. As such, offices and enclosed rooms are positioned inbound where possible with walls of glass facing the exterior windows. The majority of the perimeter is occupied by 89 low partition workstations, giving all staff access to natural light.
