Architecture49 would like to congratulate Grant Van Iderstine as he celebrates his 35th anniversary with our company today! Grant was an innovator from the beginning of his career. In the 1980’s he was a pioneer of CADD, taking on the task of applying the McDonnell Douglas Graphic Design system within the office and being one of first to learn the new technology. Grant has applied his innovative nature to all projects he has been involved with, continually researching codes, standards, and technologies to push the envelope and drive our firm and the architectural industry forward. Grant also has a keen design sense, which combined with his technical skills has always made him a much sought-after team member across the country.
Grant’s continual focus on mentorship and knowledge sharing with colleagues at A49 as well as with the broader architectural community has enriched many professional lives. He has given more than 60 industry related lectures and has been a guest critic at the University of Manitoba on numerous occasions. Additionally, Grant was one of the contributing authors of the Canadian Handbook of Practice, the guiding document for the practice of architecture in Canada.
Grant’s holistic technical, regulatory and design knowledge allows him to transform architectural ideas into tangible solid realities. His practical application of innovation is clearly displayed in recent projects such as the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Remai Art Gallery and the True North towers. Throughout his career Grant has been recognized with many awards such as: Governor Generals Award for Architecture, Prairie Design Award, Ontario Association of Architects - Award for Design Excellence, Accessible Cities, Circle of Excellence Award, Spirit of Winnipeg Award, Manitoba Premier’s Design Award of Excellence, Manitoba Masonry Design Award, RAIC Award of Excellence, Canadian Architect Award of Excellence, Winnipeg Business Accessibility Award, Eastern Landscape Gold Cup - United Nations Centre for Human Settlements, China, and Athletic Business Magazine Facility of Merit Award.
We are very lucky to have Grant as part of the A49 Manitoba Leadership. Today we celebrate not only the legacy of his many years with the company but 35 years of success and achievements – congratulations Grant!
