Brian Colgan began his career at the A49 Halifax office in September 1970 as a draftsman. As his career progressed, he moved into project management and developed specialties in specification writing and document quality control/assurance.
His charismatic personality is infectious. Ask any one of his colleagues and they will tell you that Brian is the office mentor. He is generous when it comes to sharing his knowledge and takes pride in helping others succeed. He is frequently called upon in the office to make presentations on construction detailing and construction document preparation, and to contribute to the creation of practice manuals. These are supplemented by the sometimes-periodical ‘Brian’s Helpful Hints’ and, of course, his holiday poems.
Brian is a Fellow of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) where he served as president from 2009 to 2010 and he remains an active member of CSC. In 2019 he received the Life Membership Award in recognition of his service to the association, the highest honour which CSC can bestow upon one of its members.
While not in the office, Brian enjoys time with his family, travelling throughout Europe and the Caribbean, golfing and oil painting. When asked when he will retire, Brian responds with a twinkle in his eye and says he will stop working when he no longer enjoys it.
