The new Remai Modern Art Gallery may be the most impressive arts venue you’ve never heard of, thanks to its location in Saskatoon, a thriving—if overlooked—city on the Canadian prairie of Saskatchewan. Designed by Toronto architects KPMB and housing a permanent collection of more than 8,000 objects—including a comprehensive collection of Picasso’s linocuts and major works by contemporary indigenous artists—the building is a masterpiece, encompassing four cantilevered copper-clad boxes overlooking the South Saskatchewan River. Each is arranged around an atrium that disperses natural light throughout the space. A glass-covered ground floor visually connects the site, the landscape, and the art itself.
