Architecture49 is part of a design build team with Ventana Construction which will bring a new community recreation complex to Burnaby in British Columbia, enriching the community with a state-of-the-art facility that will foster a spirit of togetherness through sports, recreation, and entertainment. The Burnaby Lake Recreation Complex (BLRC) is poised to become a centerpiece of community life, boasting a 50-meter pool with 10 lanes, complete with a diving tower and boards. Additionally, it will offer a leisure and lane pool featuring six 25-meter warm-up lanes, ample leisure space, and a family hot tub. Beyond the aquatic area, there will be an NHL-sized arena for ice and dry floor activities, a vibrant lobby and gathering space, as well as an addition to connect the complex to the existing Bill Copeland Sports Centre. This modern complex will not only cater to the athletic needs of the community but also serve as a hub for social gatherings, cultural events, and educational programs.
Our sports and entertainment practice has been instrumental in bringing this project to approval to move into design. With a deep understanding of the impact that communal spaces have on societal well-being, we have designed the BLRC to be more than just a place for physical activity. It is a place where individuals can connect, where families can spend quality time, and where the community can come together to celebrate and support one another.
The new centre is a testament to our commitment to creating buildings that are not just structures but are integral parts of the community fabric. We believe that such spaces are crucial for the thriving of communities, offering a common ground for people from all walks of life to meet, interact, and grow together.
In addition to the physical benefits that come with regular exercise and sports participation, the Burnaby Lake Recreation Complex will also contribute to the economic vitality of the area. It will create jobs, attract tourism, and stimulate local businesses, further cementing its role as a cornerstone of community development.
