Architecture49 is proud to announce our involvement in the Eglington Crosstown West Extension (ECWE), a major transit infrastructure project that will expand Toronto’s light rail network by 9.2 kilometres from Mount Dennis to Renforth Drive. As part of the Trillium Guideway Partners consortium led by WSP, Architecture49 is contributing architectural design expertise to the Stations and Ancillary Facilites.
The ECWE will include a mix of underground, elevated, and depressed grade stations, along with supporting infrastructure such as emergency exit buildings and a traction power substation buildings. Architecture49 is responsible for the architectural design of Renforth Station, a terminal and open cut depressed station that will connect to the Mississauga Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and Kipling Station, an underground station. In addition to these key transit nodes, we are also leading the design of all emergency exit buildings, traction power substation buildings, and interfacing development works at Mount Dennis Station. Architecture49 is also supporting the system-wide common elements required by the project’s design vision, in collaboration with Hawkins\Brown and Perkins&Will.
This project builds on our national experience in transit infrastructure, including recent work on the Ontario Line and Calgary Green Line. Our approach emphasizes inclusive mobility, urban integration, and sustainability, with design strategies that prioritize transit users while celebrating unique identity of each neighbourhood along the extension.
As Toronto continues to grow, the Eglington Crosstown West Extension will play a vital role in improving access to transit, reducing congestion, and enhancing the daily lives of commuters. Architecture49 is honoured to help shape this next chapter in the city’s transit evolution.
