Architecture49 proudly presents the new Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Facility at the University of Ottawa. As leaders in designing modern, inspiring, and sustainable learning environments, our philosophy is to create spaces that support all users. The new FHS building, officially opened in September 2023, nestling a modern design high on the banks of the scenic Rideau River
The design prioritizes occupant well-being, fosters connectivity among students and faculty, and instills pride among the entire campus community while promoting innovative and immersive learning and research experiences. This central hub unites five distinct disciplines—Nursing, Nutrition Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Human Kinetics, and the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences—all under one roof.
With an overriding goal to emphasize innovation, the spaces are designed to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals to think creatively and push the boundaries of interdisciplinary discovery. The building is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, empowering students to become leaders in the ever-evolving healthcare landscape. Furthermore, our commitment to innovation extends to sustainability, with the campus targeting LEED Platinum certification, reflecting its status as one of Ottawa's most environmentally responsible structures. This aligns seamlessly with the University's vision and our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint.
“Our goal for the new Faculty of Health Sciences was to design a space that nurtures future healthcare professionals, encouraging them to think beyond limits. This campus represents our vision for a greener and more innovative future for healthcare education and research. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact it will have on healthcare and the well-being of people worldwide.” Will Prange, Principal Architect, A49 Ottawa
