Waterloo Rapid Transit Project
Waterloo, Ontario

The Region of Waterloo is planning for tremendous population and employment growth over the next two decades, which requires a new approach to mobility within the Region. The Region of Waterloo Rapid Transit Project will connect the three major urban centres of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, with Stage 1 of the project consisting of Light Rail Transit (LRT), adapted Bus Rapid Transit (aBRT) and 22 stations along the 36km transit corridor. This Project has begun construction 2014 and system operations are scheduled to commence in 2017.

In order to execute the project within an aggressive schedule and under an alternate project delivery model (Design-Build-Operate-Maintain), the Region hired Parsons Brinckerhoff, WSP and A49, as the Program Manager and General Engineering Consultant to assist in the procurement, technical review and implementation of the project.

Architecture49 has completed pre-conceptual design of the LRT and aBRT Stations and work extensively with the Regions team and Urban Planners during public consultations.
