Sixteen Mile Sports Complex
Oakville, Ontario

The design of this four-pad arena complex incorporates bold geometric volumes and contemporary finishes and details.  There is extensive use of natural light throughout the large public spaces with views into the rinks.  Natural materials reflect the sustainable philosophy of the overall sports development. The lower level includes three community style NHL ice surfaces each with spectator seating and a fourth small spectator facility with Olympic sized ice and seating for 1,500 spectators.  The upper or main public entry level has a multipurpose room, administration, additional concessions and a restaurant/lounge overlooking the spectator arena.  The project is part of the larger North Park sports precinct development, which will include a future aquatic centre, community library as well as sports fields.

Sixteen Mile Sports Complex features reduced heat island effects, light pollution reduction, stormwater management, water efficient fixtures, recycled materials and low emitting materials.  The facility also exceeds building code requirements for barrier-free access for spectators and players, providing a benchmark for the design of future accessible sports facilities.
