Kin Centre
Prince George, British Columbia

The Kin Centre project involved the redesign of the existing Kin 1 Arena at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia, a versatile complex housing four arenas.  Kin 1 now has a total of 1,700 seats plus a second floor lounge, and lobbies and corridors connecting all four arenas.  It is the city’s showpiece facility for the 2015 Canada Winter Games and will host men’s & women’s hockey, ringette, short track speed skating and figure skating.

To meet the city’s “Wood First Policy” the building features an arched wood roof with over 400,000 board feet of solid wood decking from local spruce, pine and fir. Recesses for piping and conduits were designed to eliminate unsightly services and ensure wood was visually prominent.  The ice surface can be converted from NHL to Olympic size and it can host a wide variety of multipurpose events.  The redesigned Kin Centre is also one of the most accessible facilities in the country.
