Diagnostic Imaging Building, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Located on the Health Sciences Centre campus between the Children’s Emergency, Ann Thomas Critical Services, Children’s Hospital, and the new Women and Newborn Hospital, the new 7-storey infill project will support and enhance the hospital’s diagnostic testing capabilities and improve access to new developments in pediatric and adult patient care. Additionally, the facility will house the Health Sciences Centre’s permanent helicopter ambulance landing pad, enabling HSC to better fulfill its mandate as the trauma centre for Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut.
The primary objective is the expanded patient-focused Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging program including Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy and redevelopment of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. A dedicated Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI) for children will be provided along with a new CT scanner within the Digital Radiography Suite. A new OR-compatible Angio Suite and the existing HSC Angio Suites and Children’s Heart Centre are anticipated to be relocated within the facility. The project will provide a service tunnel and third floor overpass connection to the new Women and Newborn Hospital.
In order to deliver the project in an extremely compressed time frame, A49 developed a Pricing Documents process to replace the traditional schematic design and design development phases. It combines the schematic and design development drawings into one package, allowing for schedule acceleration.
