The design-build team of Architecture49, EllisDon and Nustadia Recreation are currently working with the Halifax Regional Municipality to complete the design and construction of a new multi-pad arena in Dartmouth, NS.
Once complete, the facility will feature 3 NHL sized ice pads of which one will have seating for 600, and an Olympic size rink with 300 seats. It will also have dressing rooms for the ice arenas and adjacent soccer field, tenant space, food and beverage, retail concession tenant spaces, a multi-purpose room, a boardroom and administration offices.
The main lobby is an open two story volume connected to the upper level via a generous feature stair prominently located at the outside glazed face of the building beside the entry vestibule. The second level is clearly organized with a linear public circulation and viewing area at the end of the four rinks, with the two main rinks visible and accessible from the lobby stair and elevator.
The facility is targeting LEED Silver and is consistent with the concept of responsible and sustainable development and resource efficiency, particularly with respect to the use of water, energy and materials, and will require less energy to operate than comparable facilities.
