Cole Harbour District High School underwent a multi-year, phased renovation and addition to update the school and create a new skilled trades centre. The final design includes a larger, updated gymnasium, new skilled trades centre and the cafeteria was updated and transformed into a cafetorium to enhance the performing arts programmes within the school. The interiors of the school including the lobby and administration areas, hallways and classrooms are now refreshed and better aligned with 21st century learning principles. The main entrance and administration are now to CPTED standards.
The Skilled Trades Centre (STC) comprises theoretical and practical institutional areas as well as storage capacity. The theoretical area is incorporated into the practical space so as to underscore the importance of continuous, seamless learning and its relationship to the skilled trades. This program is founded on the basis of hands-on project based learning with collaboration from the industry.
